Many people first think of textile wallpaper or fabric wallpaper in terms of magnificent castles, noble mansions and the exclusive homes of the rich and beautiful. In their own house or apartment? This is unthinkable, because after all, children leave their greasy fingers on the walls, dogs wipe off their wet fur and when rearranging the one or other scratch on the wall could arise. So fabric wallpaper is a no-go - you think. But there you have a completely wrong impression of the fine wallpapers. Fabric wallpapers are more robust than you think.
Fabric wallpaper for any room
Fabric wallpaper is not inferior to other types of wallpaper. A nice story was told to me by the owner of the wallpaper manufactory Desima: During the reconstruction phase of the manufactory, of course, a lot of dust and dirt arose. And so the fabric wallpaper on the walls also became unsightly. New wallpaper was needed for the walls. But as is the case with construction - there was no time. The mother-in-law was very practical (that's what mothers and mothers-in-law usually are). She took a bucket of water and simply washed off the dirt. That saved a lot of time and work.
Of course, this is not to say that it is a recommendation to wash off dirty fabric wallpaper. But with a little skill and caution it works. When the managing director of Desima told us the story, he immediately raised the objection that the fabric threads can detach from the backing material. We therefore wanted to know more precisely how robust the fabric wallpapers are and simply put two sample pieces in the washing machine. With the setting fine wash it went round. After the wash, the samples were a bit wrinkled, but the fabric held on the non-woven backing. Of course, no one will think of putting fabric wallpaper in the washing machine. It just shows how robust the wallpapers from the house Desima are.
The fact is, you can maintain fabric wallpaper relatively easily. Dust can be easily removed with the vacuum cleaner on the lowest setting. Also with the damp sponge you can remove one or the other spot of dirt.
Wallpapering fabric wallpaper is only for professionals
Wrong again - fabric wallpaper thanks to new backing materials, anyone can wallpaper. The only important thing is that you work cleanly. But you need to do the same with other wallpapers. Due to the carrier material non-woven, you just need to paste the wall. The fabric wallpaper is simply inserted into the glue bed and the wallpaper is painted smooth.
As with any other wallpaper, the substrate should be dry, clean, uniformly light in color, absorbent, load-bearing and smooth. Good surface preparation ensures a great wallpaper appearance.
Fabric wallpapers are the classics among wallpapers
Once textile wallpaper was a high-quality and very noble wall covering. The wallpapers belonged to the luxury wallpapers. Then came new materials, which displaced the fine fabric wallpaper. In recent years, textile wallpapers are experiencing an incredible comeback. Modern materials and new techniques create magical designs and make processing easy. Today, there are fabric wallpapers in exclusive qualities. In addition to quality features such as easy processing and exclusive designs, the focus is also on properties such as durable colors, modern materials and high-quality weaving techniques.
What textile wallpaper can do
Textile wallpapers bring some advantages. In addition to the external values, such as the fascinating look and pleasant feel, fabric wallpapers also have "inner" values. Modern and natural materials make the wallpapers environmentally friendly. The wallpapers are sound-absorbing, insulating and provide a pleasant indoor climate. At the same time, the wallpapers are in no way inferior to other wallpapers when it comes to safety.
Not only the high durability inspires the textile wallpaper. Fabric wallpapers with a dense textile surface are also heat insulating and can dampen acoustics. This is particularly noticeable in rooms with high sound levels.
What fabrics are used for fabric wallpaper?
Depending on the manufacturer, this can be very different. The manufacturer Desima relies mainly on natural materials such as silk, jute, linen, rayon or viscose. Of course, each yarn has its own character and impresses with individual structures. While jute is rather coarse, rayon convinces with fine structures and a delicate shimmer. The matte linen, in turn, stands in stark contrast to the shiny silk.
Other manufacturers - other fabrics. Not everyone uses the same type of fabric. Pleated, velvet, velor, lurex and many other yarns show their magnificent beauty as textile wallpaper on your wall.
How to wallpaper textile wallpaper and fabric wallpaper
Thanks to modern base materials, fabric wallpaper can be wallpapered just as easily as any other wallpaper. Prepare the surface well. This should be dry, clean, load-bearing, absorbent, smooth and neutral in color. Take the time to prepare the surface well. The more beautiful will be the wallpaper on the wall. You do not need to prepare the surface for each wallpapering. Once shaped, it will be perfect for a long time.
Measure the walls properly, so you can buy enough textile wallpaper. When cutting the sheets, if any, you should take into account the offset and always include a small allowance of five centimeters. This will allow you to compensate for uneven ceilings and floors, if necessary.
With a non-woven backing, you can either paste the wall or the wallpaper. Paste the wall well. Note the width of the web. Then place the wallpaper strip in the glue bed. If you want to paste the wallpaper, you should not let it soak after applying the paste, but bring it to the wall immediately. Paint the web well, removing air pockets. For painting the wallpaper is best to use foam rubber roller or a plastic spatula. This will not damage the fabric. Wallpaper is applied butt to butt.
